  • 1098-T Tax Forms

For calendar years  2015 - 2017, your Form 1098-T included a figure in Box 2 that represented the qualified tuition and related expenses (QTRE) we billed to your student account for the calendar (tax) year. Due to a change to institutional reporting requirements under federal law, beginning with tax year 2018, we will report in Box 1 the amount of QTRE you paid during the year.

Depending on your income (or your family’s income, if you are a dependent), whether you were considered full- or half-time enrolled, and the amount of your qualified educational expenses for the year, you may be eligible for a federal education tax credit. (You can find detailed information about claiming education tax credits in IRS Publication 970 (PDF), page 9.)

The dollar amounts reported on your Form 1098-T may assist you in completing IRS Form 8863 – the form used for calculating the education tax credits that a taxpayer may claim as part of your tax return.

Joliet Junior College is unable to provide you with individual tax advice, but should you have questions, you should seek the counsel of an informed tax preparer or adviser.

Below is a blank sample of the 1098T form.  Forms are mailed by the end of January.

To contact the IRS for any further tax related question, please visit www.irs.gov or call the IRS at 1-800-829-3676.

    FAQs

How can I make a payment for tuition & fees?

We encourage you to make full payments online via MyJJC with a checking account no charge or credit/debit with a 1.95% convenience fee. You can mail a check to us, however, please leave ample time if using USPS.  If you plan to pay with cash, please be sure to check office hours prior to coming to campus.  If you need to spread your payments out over a period of time, JJC offers an automatic online payment plan option through Nelnet Business Solutions, JJC's tuition management program available via MyJJC.

What is the automatic payment plan? How do I use it?

Nelnet is a third party the college has partnered with to assist in spreading out your JJC payments for the semester you enroll in. There is a non-refundable $25.00 fee for this service. Please visit the automatic-payment plan page to learn more.

How can I find out my tuition balance?

    1. Log into MyJJC - must sign in with your JJC account
    2. Go to Students Menu
    3. Under "Financial Information" choose "Pay Bill & View Financial Aid"
    4. Choose View Account and Pay Your Bill

I dropped a class, when can I expect my refund?

Refunds are generated approximately two weeks AFTER classes have begun for the term and on a weekly basis for direct deposit/bi-weekly for printed checks. If payment was received by cash, check or via NBS automatic payment plan, a refund can be deposited directly into your savings or checking account.  Enroll online via MyJJC for direct deposit!  Otherwise, a check will be mailed to the current address in the system. Please be sure your address information is current within our system (contact admission@jjc.edu for address corrections). If the student's account was paid by credit/debit card, a credit will be issued back to the same credit/debit card.

However, if the student has a financial obligation still owed to the school (ex: tuition; book voucher; fines; ) their debts will be deducted from their refund. Refunds will not be generated if a student has a restriction placed on their account until the restriction is resolved with the appropriate department.

Student Accounts & Payments does not hold any type of student refund check for pick up.

Can I get a payment plan during the summer?

Yes, payment plans are offered for all semesters.  You must have a $100.00 minimum balance and you must enroll each semester.
