President's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council

Mission

The President’s Diversity and Inclusion Council advocates and champion’s diversity and inclusion efforts that prioritize our commitment to the core values of respect and inclusion. The Council will ensure the college community is a place where everyone feels welcomed, empowered and safe.

Vision

Provide an environment that inspires acceptance, inclusion, and mutual respect.

  • Council Functions

    • Create opportunities for JJC employees to engage in dialogue and gain knowledge about the meaning and importance of diversity and inclusion.
    • Ensure leadership embraces and models the vision, values, and goals for diversity and inclusion.
    • Incorporate diversity into strategic planning for each academic area and support unit.
    • Analyze effectiveness of council’s efforts through diversity and inclusion metrics.

    • Serve as a vital resource regarding critical decisions and emerging issues that impact the college community

  • About the DEI Plan

    In 2019, JJC students, faculty and staff participated in a Diversity Climate Assessment that included both a survey and focus groups. JJC also hosted a Community Dinner where District 525 community leaders shared their feedback on diversity and inclusion at JJC. 

    With this feedback, we created a DEI Plan. These four key goal areas were identified: 

    1. Hiring/Employment
    2. Employees/Campus Climate
    3. Student Engagement
    4. External Outreach/Business Partnerships
